Let another adventure begin….AUBREY IS GOING TO BE A BIG
SISTER!
The day I took the test I already knew what it was going to
say. I had all of the same symptoms when I suspected I was pregnant with Aubrey
as well. The first test came back extremely faint but the second one was a
definite positive!
In true Ashley fashion, I could not keep my secret. I
thought I was going to explode! Travis did not believe me at first, he thought
I was joking for sure because I have a tendency to jump to conclusions without
any facts. After he saw the picture of the positive tests his excitement really
set in! Of course, my mom started crying right away. She was ecstatic! Travis’s
parents were just as happy. We tried explaining
it to Aubrey but being just a few weeks shy of 18 months, she didn’t really
understand at first but she clapped and smiled along with everyone else's
excitement!
Fast forward a few weeks I started having severe abdominal
pain. I was rushed to the emergency room and thankfully it could have been much
worse. They sent me down to have an
abdominal ultrasound done as well as an ultrasound to check on the babies. I
knew something was going on because the tech kept measuring two completely
different areas. Then the real surprise
came….WE ARE HAVING TWINS! I was in
complete shock. Travis immediately started laughing. He got the uncontrollable
laughs and I wasn’t sure if it was because he was nervous or if he could see
the utter look of shock on my face!
It wasn’t long before my entire family (which is extremely
large!) to start texting my mom and Travis to check on me. We thought we would
have a little fun by simply stating “Ashley is doing fine and so are the
babies. It took a few minutes for people to catch on and fully understand what they
were saying but once they did….the responses started flowing in! Everyone was
through the roof excited as this was the first set of twins on my mothers side.
Travis has one set of twins on his Dad’s side and months later we would find
out that twins & triplets run on my Dad’s side of the family!
I am not going to lie…it took me several weeks to adjust to
the news of having twins. In no way was I disappointed….but I was extremely
scared. How was I going to carry twins? How would delivery go? My delivery with
Aubrey was terrifying and I was very close to losing my life and the thought of
a high risk pregnancy and delivery scared me to my core. After doing much reading & research
online I found out this is actually a very common reaction when finding out
about an unplanned twin pregnancy. That made me extremely relieved because I
can not express how guilty I felt by not immediately feeling as excited as
everyone else! The one thing that surprised everyone including myself was that
I was not scared to raise twins! I really feel like we will take each day at a
time in learning how to balance our new family dynamic.
Here we are…2 months later and we just found out the genders
of these tiny little miracles growing in my tummy! BOTH BOYS!! I had a feeling
all along that they would both be boys…my pregnancy symptoms are complete
opposite of the ones I experienced while pregnant with Aubrey. I crave salt ALL
DAY LONG. I have zero nausea which I am extremely grateful for! I'm sleeping
well and the only issue I have which I'm sure will get worse as time goes by is
the sciatic back pain. We just purchased
a new king sized adjustable bed in hopes that this might help make things a bit
more comfortable!
This is just the beginning of this crazy, exciting new
chapter in our lives and we can not wait to document every special moment!
