Now this post might throw you off a bit and make it seem like I am a summer-loving San Diego native who dreams of spending weekends at the beach with my toes in the sand and the wind in my hair. Just...no.
To this girl, summer is just a 3 month stretch of heat waves and waiting for the holiday season to start. However I do enjoy my collection of sundresses and evening BBQs when it finally starts to cool off!
My list of summer essential items quickly changed this year when we added a 10 month old baby into the mix! Side note for future reference - if you live in sunny San Diego try your best to avoid being pregnant in the summer months as it is an extremely uncomfortable experience.
Contigo water bottle
This water bottle has been a trusty sidekick of mine for the past several months. Reletivley inexpensive and carried at Target and in bulk at Costco (also comes in kid sizes too!). I love it because I have a habit of dropping things and knocking things over in the car and the fact that this actually clicks/seals closed was enough for me!
Laura Mercier SPF moisturizer
I am a makeup-loving girl down to the core. But during the hot summer months I find myself reaching for this quite often. It evens out my skin tone while also providing sunscreen properties as well. It gives you a nice "no makeup" look without the heavy foundation feeling.
Quay aviator sunglasses
A solid pair of sunglasses is a must have. Im not initially drawn to designer sunglasses because lets face it...I usually throw them in my purse on a daily basis and Im not willing to risk the heartbreak of an accidental broken pair. I heard about Quay sunglasses from one of my favorite youtube vloggers - LustreLux. This pair in particular caught my eye but it had been sold out everywhere for months! I finally got a confirmation email and snagged them asap. I love how big they are because they keep a majority of my face shaded too.
Floral kimono
I am a sucker for kimonos. They are so lightweight and can really pair with any outfit. I usually wear them over a sundress or with shorts and a tank. They also look adorable over a swimsuit. Lately I have been all about floral print everything so as soon as I saw this one I knew I had to add it to my collection.
Sanuk flip flops
THESE BABIES. These trusty little flips have lasted me two years and counting. Hands down the most comfortable footwear I have owned! The bottom feels like you are literally walking on a yoga mat. I promise this will be one purchase you will not regret!
Fresh sugar lip therapy treatment
This lip treatment saved me! When it gets super dry out my lips react terribly. While chapped lips are already annoying to deal with I also wear liquid lipstick which very clearly shows any dry or cracked lips. I was finding that while my EOS lip balm did the trick...it just wasn't working quick enough for me. For starters this smells AMAZING. It only takes one quick swipe because a little bit really does go a long way.
Floppy felt hat
I have always been a hat girl. When I was little my mom would always buy me hats to accessorize with and I have been a fan every since! These are perfect for the days when you don't have time to do a full hairstyle and have already rocked the top knot for 5 days straight and want to switch it up. It looks great with your hair down or in a quick side braid as well!
Handheld fan [similar version here]
Now this might come off a bit dramatic and yes I do fall into that category. But technically I use this for Aubrey. We found that trying to do things in the middle of the day she started to become cranky they hotter it got. We were skeptical about purchasing one thinking it would be a waste of money but this little guy came in handy on many occasions! We have already used it at the Zoo, San Diego county fair and Disneyland. Aubrey loves it and it definitely cools her off and keeps her comfortable.
Betsey Johnson tote bag
This is a lifesaver on so many levels! Although its not very large it does get the job done. If we are going to the park, pool or beach I tend to reach for this bag to pack essentials for the day and end up using it as a temporary diaper bag all in one. It would also work out great as a practical carry on bag as well!
Loving Tan bronzing mousse
Last by CERTAINLY not least is this baby! I am part Irish so if I get any color at all it is usually a shade of lobster. This bronzing mousse is life changing in that department. I really can't say enough good things about this product. The before & after pictures on their website alone [click here] are insane and such a good testimonial for their product. I love that you can see what your putting on and where to avoid any streaks or staining.
Hope you enjoyed my list of Summer essentials! We are officially 6 months away from Christmas and I am trying to contain my holiday cheer...at least until October.
